Worked example

Calculated by the same engine as the calculator above.

Inputs
Amount (source currency)
1,000
Exchange Rate (target units per 1 source unit)
83
Result
Converted Amount (target currency)
83,000
Rate Used
83

Formula

Converted amount = Amount × Rate

  • Amount = value in the source currency (for example 1,000 US dollars)
  • Rate = units of the target currency per 1 unit of the source currency

Assumptions

  • The exchange rate is entered manually; the calculator does not fetch live rates.
  • Bank markups, forex fees and taxes on foreign exchange are not included.
  • The default rate is only a starting value; replace it with the current rate before relying on the result.
  • The result is shown as a plain number in the target currency; the page currency selector does not change it.
  • Educational estimate only, not financial advice. Capitallytics does not execute transactions.

Currency Converter FAQ

Answers about how this calculator works.

Does the currency converter use live exchange rates?
No. You enter the rate yourself, so the result is only as current as the rate you type.
Which way round should the rate be?
Enter how many units of the target currency one unit of the source currency buys. To convert US dollars to rupees, enter the rupees per dollar.
How do I convert rupees to dollars?
Enter the rupee amount and use 1 divided by the rupees-per-dollar rate as the exchange rate.
Why does my bank give me less than this?
Banks and forex providers add a markup and may charge fees or taxes on foreign exchange, none of which are included here.
