Formula
FV = Σ P_k × (1 + i)^(n - k + 1), with P_k = P × (1 + s)^floor((k - 1) / 12)
- P = starting monthly investment
- s = annual step-up percentage / 100
- i = expected annual return / 12 / 100 (monthly rate)
- n = investment period in years × 12, rounded to whole months
- k = month number, from 1 to n
Assumptions
- The monthly amount increases once every 12 months, starting from month 13; it does not change within a year.
- Each instalment is invested at the start of the month and compounds monthly at the annual rate divided by 12.
- A negative step-up is treated as 0%, so the amount never decreases.
- Expense ratios, exit loads and taxes are not deducted. Results are rounded to two decimal places.
- Educational estimate only, not financial advice. Capitallytics does not execute transactions.
Step-up SIP Calculator FAQ
Answers about how this calculator works.
When does the step-up apply?
The first increase applies from month 13, then again every 12 months. Within each year the monthly amount stays the same.
Is the step-up a percentage or a fixed rupee amount?
It is a percentage of the previous year's monthly amount, so increases compound. For example, a 10% step-up on ₹10,000 gives ₹11,000 in year two and ₹12,100 in year three.
How is this different from a regular SIP calculator?
A regular SIP keeps the same amount for the whole period. A step-up SIP raises it yearly, which usually lines up better with salary increases.
Can I enter a negative step-up to model lower contributions?
No. The engine treats any negative step-up as 0%, so the contribution stays flat rather than falling.
Does the result include fund costs or tax?
No. It is a gross estimate at the return you enter, without expense ratios, exit loads or capital gains tax.
