- Inputs
- Monthly Investment
- ₹10,000
- Expected Return (% p.a.)
- 12
- Investment Period (Years)
- 10
- Result
- Total Investment
- ₹12,00,000
- Estimated Returns
- ₹11,23,391
- Final Corpus
- ₹23,23,391
Formula
FV = P × [((1 + i)^n - 1) / i] × (1 + i)
- FV = estimated final corpus
- P = monthly investment
- i = expected annual return / 12 / 100 (monthly rate)
- n = investment period in years × 12, rounded to whole months
Assumptions
- Each instalment is invested at the start of the month (annuity due), so every instalment earns one extra month of growth.
- Returns compound monthly at the annual rate divided by 12, and the rate stays constant for the whole period.
- Expense ratios, exit loads, stamp duty and capital gains tax are not deducted.
- Results are rounded to two decimal places.
- Educational estimate only, not financial advice. Capitallytics does not execute transactions.
SIP Calculator FAQ
Answers about how this calculator works.
Does this SIP calculator assume start-of-month or end-of-month investing?
It assumes each SIP instalment is invested at the start of the month, which is why the formula multiplies by (1 + i). An end-of-month assumption would give a slightly lower corpus.
How is the monthly return worked out from the annual return?
The annual return you enter is divided by 12 to get a monthly rate, and growth compounds every month. For example, 12% p.a. is treated as 1% per month.
Why will my actual mutual fund value differ from this estimate?
Real fund returns vary every day and are never constant. The calculator also ignores expense ratios, exit loads and taxes, so treat the result as an illustration.
Can I use this for an SIP that increases every year?
No, this calculator keeps the monthly amount fixed. Use the Step-up SIP calculator if your contribution rises once a year.
How do I measure the actual return on SIPs I have already made?
Use the XIRR calculator with the dates and amounts of each instalment and the current value. XIRR is the standard way to measure returns on irregular or periodic investments.
