Formula
Corpus = S × [((1 + i)^n - 1) / i] × (1 + i); today's money = Corpus / (1 + f)^y
- S = monthly savings
- i = expected annual return / 12 / 100 (monthly rate)
- n = (retirement age - current age) × 12
- f = annual inflation / 100; y = years to retirement
Assumptions
- The expected return and inflation you enter stay constant every year until retirement.
- Savings are invested at the start of each month and stay flat until retirement; no step-up is applied.
- Existing savings and retirement expenses are not part of this calculation.
- Taxes and fund costs are ignored. Results are rounded to two decimal places.
- Educational estimate only, not financial advice. Capitallytics does not execute transactions.
Retirement Calculator FAQ
Answers about how this calculator works.
What return should I enter?
Use a long-run return that fits your asset mix. The default is 10% a year for rupee savings; a debt-heavy mix usually earns less, so try a lower rate too.
What does corpus in today's money mean?
It is the future corpus divided by (1 + inflation) for each year to retirement, so you can compare it with what money buys today. At 6% inflation, prices roughly double every 12 years.
How do I know if the corpus is enough?
Compare the corpus in today's money with your FIRE number, which is your annual expenses divided by a safe withdrawal rate. The FIRE calculator does that step.
Can I include savings I already have?
Not here. Estimate their future value with the Lumpsum calculator and add it to this corpus.
