Formula
B_y = (B_(y-1) + D) × (1 + r)
- B_y = balance at the end of year y (B_0 = 0)
- D = yearly deposit
- r = annual interest rate / 100
- Interest earned = final balance - D × years
Assumptions
- Each yearly deposit is made at the start of the year and interest compounds once a year.
- The rate is fixed for the whole tenure. The rate field is pre-filled at 7.1% p.a. as a starting value, not a guaranteed rate.
- Annual deposit limits, partial withdrawals and loans are not enforced or modelled.
- Uses the same engine as the PPF calculator.
- Educational estimate only, not financial advice. Capitallytics does not execute transactions.
Post Office PPF Calculator FAQ
Answers about how this calculator works.
Is Post Office PPF different from bank PPF?
No. PPF is a government scheme with the same rate and rules wherever the account is opened. Only the servicing institution differs.
Why does my passbook interest differ slightly?
In practice PPF interest is computed monthly on the lowest balance between the 5th and month end and credited yearly. This calculator simplifies that to one annual compounding step.
What tenure should I enter?
A PPF account has a 15-year term, which is the default. You can enter a longer period to model an extension with deposits.
Does this include tax savings on PPF deposits?
No. Tax treatment depends on your regime and is not part of this calculation.
