Formula
Funding cost = (V - V × m / 100) × r / 100 × D / 365
- V = position value
- m = margin required (%)
- r = annual funding rate (%)
- D = holding days
- Funded amount = V - V × m / 100
Assumptions
- Interest is simple interest on the funded amount over a 365-day year.
- The funded amount stays constant; mark-to-market changes and margin calls are not modelled.
- Pledge charges, brokerage, GST and other fees are not included.
- Educational estimate only, not financial advice. Capitallytics does not execute transactions.
MTF Calculator FAQ
Answers about how this calculator works.
What is MTF?
A margin trading facility lets you buy shares by paying part of the value as margin while the broker funds the rest and charges interest on it.
How is MTF interest calculated here?
It is simple interest on the funded amount: funded amount × annual rate × holding days / 365. Your broker may compute daily interest differently.
Does the calculator include profit or loss on the shares?
No. It only estimates the margin and funding cost. Price changes, margin calls and charges are outside its scope.
Why does a longer holding period matter so much?
Funding cost grows in direct proportion to the number of days, so holding twice as long roughly doubles the interest.
