Formula

Instalment due = Net tax × cumulative % by the date − amount due by the previous date

  • Net tax = tax for the year after TDS and TCS
  • Cumulative %: 15% by 15 June, 45% by 15 September, 75% by 15 December, 100% by 15 March
  • Presumptive income (44AD / 44ADA): 100% by 15 March
  • No advance tax is due when net tax is below ₹10,000

Assumptions

  • Uses the instalment percentages and the ₹10,000 limit from the Income-tax Act.
  • You enter the tax for the year; the calculator does not work it out from your income.
  • Interest for late or short payment (234B and 234C) is not calculated here.
  • Amounts are rounded to whole rupees.
  • Educational estimate only, not financial advice. Capitallytics does not execute transactions.

Advance Tax Calculator FAQ

Answers about how this calculator works.

Who has to pay advance tax?
Anyone whose tax for the year, after TDS, is ₹10,000 or more. Resident senior citizens with no business income are exempt.
What happens if I pay an instalment late?
Interest of 1% a month is charged on the shortfall under section 234C, and under 234B if less than 90% is paid by 31 March.
Why is there only one instalment for presumptive income?
If you use the presumptive scheme under 44AD or 44ADA, the whole advance tax can be paid in one instalment by 15 March.
Should I include TDS already deducted?
No. Enter the tax left after TDS and TCS. Advance tax is only payable on that remaining amount.
