Formula
B_m = B_(m-1) × (1 + i) - W
- B_m = corpus balance after month m (B_0 = initial corpus)
- i = expected annual return / 12 / 100 (monthly rate)
- W = monthly withdrawal, capped at the balance available
- The loop runs for withdrawal period in years × 12 months, rounded
Assumptions
- Each month the corpus first earns one month of return, then the withdrawal is taken (end-of-month withdrawal).
- The withdrawal amount stays fixed; it is not increased for inflation.
- If the balance runs out, the final withdrawal is limited to what is left and the calculation stops; 'Months Lasted' shows when.
- Taxes on redemptions, exit loads and fund expenses are not deducted.
- Educational estimate only, not financial advice. Capitallytics does not execute transactions.
SWP Calculator FAQ
Answers about how this calculator works.
What does 'Months Lasted' mean?
It is the number of months in which a withdrawal was made before the corpus ran out or the period ended. If it equals the full period, the corpus lasted the whole time.
Is the withdrawal taken before or after returns are added?
After. Each month the balance grows by the monthly rate first, and then the withdrawal is subtracted.
Does this SWP calculator adjust withdrawals for inflation?
No, the monthly withdrawal is constant. To see how much a fixed amount will buy in future, try the Inflation calculator.
Is SWP income taxed?
Each SWP withdrawal is a redemption of units and may attract capital gains tax. This calculator does not model tax, so the amounts are pre-tax.
