Formula
M = R × [(1 + i)^n - 1] / [1 - (1 + i)^(-1/3)]
- M = maturity amount
- R = monthly deposit
- i = annual rate / 400 (quarterly rate)
- n = tenure in years × 4, rounded
Assumptions
- Uses the same quarterly-compounding RD formula as the bank RD calculator.
- Every monthly deposit is made on time and the rate stays fixed. The rate field is pre-filled at 6.7% p.a. as a starting value, not a quoted rate.
- Defaults, penalties, loans against the RD and premature closure are not modelled.
- Tax on interest is not deducted.
- Educational estimate only, not financial advice. Capitallytics does not execute transactions.
Post Office RD Calculator FAQ
Answers about how this calculator works.
What rate should I use for a Post Office RD?
Use the rate currently notified for the Post Office RD. Small savings rates are reviewed by the government periodically, so confirm it before you plan.
What tenure should I enter?
Enter the tenure you plan to hold the RD for. The standard Post Office RD tenure is 5 years, which is the default here.
Is the result guaranteed?
No. It is an estimate from the rate and tenure you enter, before tax, assuming every instalment is paid on time.
How does a Post Office RD compare with a SIP?
An RD earns a fixed notified rate, while a SIP's return depends on the market. You can compare estimates with the SIP calculator, but the risks are very different.
