Maturity Amount

Interest Earned

Formula

A = P × (1 + r / 4)^(4 × t)

  • A = maturity amount
  • P = principal deposited
  • r = annual interest rate / 100
  • t = tenure in years
  • Interest earned = A - P

Assumptions

  • Interest compounds quarterly (4 times a year), the common convention for cumulative bank FDs in India.
  • The rate is fixed for the full tenure and interest is reinvested, not paid out.
  • TDS and income tax on FD interest are not deducted.
  • Tenure is entered in years; fractional years are compounded proportionally.
  • Educational estimate only, not financial advice. Capitallytics does not execute transactions.

FD Calculator FAQ

Answers about how this calculator works.

How often does this FD calculator compound interest?
Quarterly. The annual rate is divided by 4 and applied four times a year, which matches the usual cumulative FD convention in India.
Is FD interest taxable?
Yes, FD interest is added to your income and taxed at your slab rate, and banks may deduct TDS. This calculator shows interest before any tax.
Does it work for non-cumulative FDs that pay interest monthly or quarterly?
No. It assumes interest is reinvested until maturity. For payouts, interest would not compound and the total would be lower.
How is FD different from RD?
An FD is a single deposit made once. An RD is a fixed amount deposited every month; use the RD calculator for that.
