Emergency Fund Calculator FAQ
Answers about how this calculator works.
How many months of expenses should an emergency fund cover?
Many people use 3 to 6 months, and more if income is irregular or they support dependants. The calculator uses whatever number you choose.
Which expenses should I include?
Include essential monthly costs such as rent or home loan EMI, groceries, utilities, insurance premiums and school fees. Leave out discretionary spending if you would cut it in an emergency.
Does the calculator account for inflation?
No. It uses today's expenses. Review the target every year as your costs change.
Does it tell me how much I still need to save?
No. It shows the target only. Subtract the cash you already hold, then use the Savings Goal calculator to plan the gap.
